Super Mario Galaxy Movie Dominates China Box Office

Mario Jumps to the Top

Universal’s ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ has stomped its way to the top of the China box office, raking in RMB57.1 million ($8.3 million) over the weekend. It’s a me, Mario, and he’s winning big, leaving other films in the dust.

The Italian plumber’s cinematic adventure outpaced the competition, proving that nostalgia and a catchy theme tune can still pull in the crowds.

Other Players in the Game

In second place, ‘It’s OK’ climbed up the ladder from fifth, pocketing $6.1 million and bringing its total to $9.9 million. Directed by Yang Lina, it’s a drama about a young woman dealing with her mother’s sudden arrival. Not exactly a barrel of laughs, but it’s got the drama lovers hooked.

Sitting in third is ‘Project Hail Mary,’ still orbiting the box office with an additional $5.7 million. This sci-fi flick’s total haul now stands at $27.5 million, proving that space adventures are still in vogue.

Newcomers and Thrillers

‘Now I Met Her’ made its debut in fourth with $4.1 million. Directed by Xiao Luxi, it tells the tale of a young man discovering his mother’s past through a diary. It’s got the feels, but not enough to topple Mario.

Rounding out the top five, ‘Game of Identity’ opened with $3.6 million. This thriller about a ‘life exchange’ gone wrong is all about manipulation and greed. It’s a bit of a mind-bender, but not quite the blockbuster.
